PART ONE
What is Mantra?
Mantra is a combination of sacred syllables that forms a nucleus of spiritual energy.
The chanting or recitation of mantras activates and accelerates the creative spiritual force, promoting harmony in all parts of the human being.
One of the results that comes quicky with the practice of mantra is the control of the breath, which is how we can develop the ability to control the emotions.
Jai Uttal has said “that Kirtan is a way to release emotions” . Uttal says that “Kirtan is a way to release emotions that are locked in our hearts. He says that by chanting, we can enter a space of deep emotional release, inner connectedness, and surrender. “
“Chanting is a way of getting in touch with yourself. It's an opening of the heart
and letting go of the mind and thoughts. It deepens the channel of grace, and it's
a way of being present in the moment.”
Krishna Das
My Mantra story…
“I first feel in love with kundalini chants. I loved listening to ‘wahe guru’ and ‘ong namo guru dev namo’ by Snatam Kaur
I would sit and listen to these chants every day and they helped support my heart after my Father passed away.
I am so grateful for all my teachers and mentors who have shared their experience, teachings and love for Mantras. These teachers will always hold such a special place in my heart.
One of my first teachers was Jayne Ellis ( from high times yoga). Jayne first introduced my into kundalini mantras. I listened to these kundalini mantras tears would roll down my face and it felt like the therapy I needed.
My second mantra teacher , who has now become such a dear friend and mentor to me in my life. Gratia Churchill . some of the chants that I am sharing on my website, I have had the gift of learning from Gratia Churchill. Gratia has had such a positive impact on my life, has taught me so much knowledge and has given me so much love and support. I will always be so grateful to have Gratia Churchill in my life. Gratia has a wealth of knowledge in Kirtan and is an inspiration in so many ways.
Claire Missingham has taught me how to share mantras in my yoga classes , opening and closing mantras. Claire has taught me the meaning behind the Mantras. Claire has helped me with the prenonouciation and the finer details to the mantras. Claire is another mentor who has had a big impact on my teaching. Claire has encouraged me to share this practice with many , I give great thanks to Claire.
Sasha has taught me how to play the harmonium, the break down of the chords and also has taught me how to play some of the chants available to download on my website. Sasha has taught me the finer details of how to play the harmonium and has been so supportive and encouraging to me since the start of my chanting journey.
I am so grateful for all the teachers I have learn from on this path. Mantras have personally helped me journey through life , the ups , the downs of life. Having a chanting practice has been the anchor and support that I needed in time of turbulence and in times of needing to come back to the heart.
I hope that by practicing with these mantras they become medicine for your heart too. I hope these Mantas support your heart in times that you need it. I hope these mantras help you through all the ups and downs of life.
Remember to keep shining your light and keep your heart open.
